It's at the times when I would be visiting and celebrating holidays with my family that I miss them the most (I did end up calling them, which helped)... Not that this holiday hasn't been a blast! :~) Jamey and I just kinda went out and did a little window shopping (my personal favorite!). It was nice to just mosey around Mauldin with nothing to do and nothing on our minds. Since we had a pot luck on Sunday I had leftover sloppy joes and macaroni salad which constituted the Memorial day dinner! :~) Since Jamey didn't go into work yesterday, I didn't do anything constructive either... And it came back to bite me today! :~)
I had my work cut out for me today... I did three loads of laundry. I also cleaned both bathrooms and the kitchen. The kitchen and the front bathroom needed to be mopped which wasn't hard with the Swiffer wet jet, just a little time consuming. On paper it doesn't look like I did that much today, but let me tell you I was beat when I got done! :~)
To let me relax a little Jamey took me out to a consignment shop to look for a denim skirt. I've been looking for one since the zipper on the denim skirt I got last year for my birthday up and broke on me a few weeks ago. I was looking for something stylish and modest... Almost impossible. Well, I finally found one that fit and was the style I was looking for. The best thing about it? It still had the tag on it! That's not all... It was originally $40! :~) I got it for $10.
Now the only thing I have to look for is a pair of white heels... I'm not sure where I'm going to find them cause it seems that they've just up and stopped making white shoes. Ahh, a frustration for another day! ;~)

Recipe!!
Thursday night was a very fun evening. The morning wasn't so much... Jamey and I had to call all the church members to let them know that the funeral was on Friday. I also had to call to get people to make food for the dinner. The day was hectic and a little stressful, but the play at the end of the day let us escape for about an hour and a half. It started with a guy that wanted to share this vinyl record experience with us. When he started the record all the characters came to life... It was set in the twenties and was just a little on the corny side, but it was fun. The theater was so big! It even had the boxes up near the top, with thick burgundy curtains! :~)
I'm going to be like my sister in her blog... Give a recipe! ;~) Friday was the funeral so I had to make some of the food. I had the ham from Easter (which I got at Aldis) in my freezer that had yet to be eaten. So I got the brilliant idea that I would take ham. But not just the ham... I looked for a glaze online and found this one:
BROWN SUGAR GLAZE
1 Cup Brown Sugar
2 Tbsp. Flour
1/2 Tsp. Mustard
1/8 Tsp. Cinnamon
3 Tbsp. Water
Mix well. Spread on ham. :~p
I had the ham sliced already, so I laid the pieces on a cookie sheet and slathered each piece with the glaze and baked it for about 10 minutes or until the ham was hot and the glaze was starting to bubble. When the dinner started everyone couldn't get enough of the ham! They thought it was a Honey Baked ham! :~) That was the most compliments I've gotten on any food that I've brought for church gatherings. I also made a cake and used my Mommy's frosting recipe and that got rave reviews too.
Jamey did the funeral service. It was his first time doing anything like that so he was a little nervous! However, quite a few people came up and said it was the best funeral service they had been to. That made him feel better! :~) Hopefully he won't have a lot of practice with that particular service.
This week we've been keeping busy going to gospel meetings. This Saturday is the marriage seminar... I'm really looking forward to that! :~) I've been trying to keep busy cleaning this house! :~) I'm going to be sewing a little too... I got some fabric from Walmart that I'm looking forward to making into a shirt and a dress. :~)

I'm going to Broadway tonight!
Well, not really... A friend from church got some tickets from a friend of his that didn't want to go. So the friend from church asked Jamey if he and I would like to go! :~) Of course he said yes... It's hard to say no to free tickets to a Broadway show that cost $63 each! I can't wait! It's an actual Broadway play that's touring! We will have to dress up a little, that should be fun. Don't worry I'll definitely tell you how it went! :~)
It'll get our minds off what has happened here lately... One of our church members has had Alzheimer's for a while and just recently caught double pneumonia. Anyway, he died last night. Jamey gets to do part of the funeral, something that he has never done before.
On a lighter note, there are gospel meetings coming up next week and a singing night at a nearby congregation on Friday. :~) Just to give you an idea of what our week will be like... A funeral, then Singing tomorrow, Sunday there's an open house for a handicapped member, Monday we're going to the gospel meeting in Slater, Tuesday I have a ladies study to go to, Wednesday is church, Thursday we're going to the gospel meeting in Clinton, Saturday there's a marriage seminar at Augusta Rd., Sunday is church and then there is another gospel meeting that week. Yeah, we keep busy! :~)

Strawberries!!! :- )
Yes, this very moment there are about 7 squares of towels all filled with strawberries drying so I can freeze them. How did I get them you ask? We were invited to go picking today by an older couple from church... They go pick every so often and wondered if we would join them. Jamey was enthralled by the thought of getting fresh picked strawberries. Me on the other was just looking forward to picking them! :~) We spent about half an hour picking... Trying our hardest to get good juicy ones. When we were done we had two baskets full of them. Trust me this will last us for a while! :~)
We've been relatively busy, Jamey has gone with some guys from church to visit someone so I'm all alone with the red things in the kitchen! :~) Well, I tend to stay busy around the house... Monday I usually do the three loads of laundry that piles up over the week. Tuesday and Wednesday are spent tidying and cleaning the house, that and church on Wednesday. Thursday Jamey and I go visiting some of the people from church and Friday we go grocery shopping. That leaves us with Saturday with nothing to do... Unless there is somewhere that is having a get together. Sunday we are usually out eating with some of the congregation after service and maybe can get a nap in before night church.
So far it's been nice weather wise, not too hot today which was perfect for picking strawberries. Yesterday the wind about knocked us over, but other than that the weather has been just steadily getting warmer.
We have yet to go to Charleston because we've been so busy. I can't wait! :~) I want to see all the history that's there! :~) For now I'll just have to make due with the trip I had Saturday... One of the church members and her granddaughter and I went to the Roper Mountain Science center. We went there while Jamey and her husband went to an old car show. It was more than old cars, it had a train and some old furniture... Anyway, Jamey had a blast there! :~) I went and saw all the science and history! It had a lot of animals there, like the snake and parrot you could pet (I did). It also had an exhibit on World War l and World War ll uniforms and war tools. They had a lecture on archeologyfascinating, unless you're a 5 year old! :~) They also had a working farm from the old days. You could grind corn for the chickens and pet the horse and sheep. The Scottish Highland cow couldn't have cared less and wouldn't move for anything! :~) They had a wood working area where the kids could carve wood and a blacksmith shed with some one making something out of iron. All the people that were working there were dressed in period clothing. Even though they were dressed old fashioned, technology slipped through... I saw a lady with prairie clothing and talking on a cell phone! :~) My favorite was the working kitchen they had. It was late 17 hundreds and I could have stayed there for hours! :~) Unfortunately it had to close at 2:30pm and I had to leave, but I had a great time! :~)

Summer special... BLTs :- p
I had a good day Thursday, Jamey took me out to the Greenville park which has a suspension bridge and cool waterfalls... I mean cool, the water was freezing! :~) After that we ate at Subway in town and went in search of the Historical Society. Ok, I have to say this... I'm a Civil war era freak! I love that time period, so much so that I made myself an outfit... Which, I hate to say, doesn't fit like it used to but I still love it! Anyway, when we finally found the place it was just a little one room deal with lots of pictures and some old newspapers. I was just a little disappointed. I guess I had been spoiled by the one that I was a member of before in Williams Co. OH. There they have clothes, furniture, lots of items that command your attention... I just thought that for such a historic place like SC they would have had a better one than that... Maybe they have one like I'm thinking of in Charleston. :~)
Yesterday we went visiting and went out to eat with an elderly couple from church, and let me say that Silver Bay is about as good as a fish place gets! :~) I left there fat and happy, until the food decided to get revenge! :~O No, not heartburn just the awful feeling of being too full... You women understand! :~) After that we went grocery shopping and went home. For supper on this night I planned BLTs! :~) I love my bacon! I cooked about a package and a half and we ate it all! I don't usually eat tomatoes but I had one on my BLT and it wasn't bad! :~) That sandwich is my all time favorite summer delights! :~) That and ice cream on a hot day...
Today we went to a yard sale. Nothing special about that I suppose except the fact that I had to get up at 6:30am to go to this one. I'm not usually that much of a morning person, but we got there when it opened! :~) I'm glad w to fine did... Jamey is a veteran yard saler and knows how to move at one. Apparently, I did it wrong. You're not supposed to stop at the first thing you see, but go straight for the electronics cause that is where you get the best deals... Not to mention that stuff is gone fast! :~) I'm glad Jamey was with me cause he found a Casio keyboard that looks about new (with stand and adapter) for $40! :~) Yes, I played it when I got home! :~)
